Jungle Boogie

Robyn Greif (ScrapperGirl Designs) is releasing her newest kit, Jungle Boogie, tomorrow August 8. I gotta tell you, this kit is adorable! I love the orange and brown color palette and all the jungle elements she has created to go with it. Here are a couple of layouts I made from her kit.

The photos are of my cute nephew, Jace, and his friends when they visited the Hogle Zoo on Senior Day last May. They were having such a good time!

Robyn's kit will be available to purchase tomorrow at Inspriation Lane, Pretty Scrappy, and her newest store at Scrapable. Make sure you check it out!

Back to Real Life

It has been a very busy month so far. My annual trip to Snowbird with the family was fantastic. It was so beautiful up in the mountains! Everything was so green, and there were a lot of colorful wildflowers. Lots of snow was on the top of the mountain and there were many waterfalls and streams running down the slopes.

For me, it was mostly a time to relax my mind and rejuvenate my soul. Even though it is not far from home, Snowbird seems to be in another world. There is no traffic, noise, or confusion but only beauty, quiet and lots of family love.

All the kids stayed very busy with swimming, hiking, playing games and making crafts. This is a layout of all of them modeling the cute necklaces they all made while there. Aren't they adorable!

I Love July!

July is my favorite month of the year!! It is finally hot and sunny (my favorite weather) here in Utah. It feels so good to take a book or my laptop outside to sit on the bench on my big front porch. There are also lots sof events in July to keep me excited and busy.

First up, of course, is the 4th of July. My family gets together every 4th for a barbecue and our own cul-de-sac of fire. This year we went to my niece, Kandice, and her hubby, Jared's house. We ate too much good food and had so much fun setting off our fireworks. Take a look at a couple of layouts I did of our festivities.

My birthday is on July 7, and for as long as I can remember, we have celebrated it on July 4. It's so much fun to have fireworks on my birthday!!!

Next week, my whole family (and some of the aunts, uncles and cousins) are heading up to Snowbird for a week of fun in the mountains. We have been doing this every year in July for 33 years now (wow, I'm getting old!). I'll be taking lots of photos to scrap - tee hee!

Utah celebrates Pioneer Day on July 24th. It is a state holiday with parades, rodeos, more fireworks, etc. I live in Spanish Fork, and we celebrate Fiesta Days on the 24th, too. Along with the parades and rodeos, there is a carnival and lots of activities at the City Park. I live just one block from the park, so my neighborhood is very busy that week.

Hope you are all enjoying July!!!

Robyn has been busy and has another kit that will be released tomorrow at Pretty Scrappy, Inspiration Lane, and Digital Paper Hearts.

Isn't this the cutest!!! I am a sucker for bright, vibrant colors, and this kit is full of them. The papers include solids and really clever patterns like giraffe, spots, b/w check, and squares. There are rickrack, strings, frames, buttons, and lots of darling animals. Honestly, I've never seen a cuter kit to scrap photos of trips to the zoo, pets, kids acting wild, stuffed animals, and anything else your imagination can dream of.

Here is a layout I did of my son and his daughter at the zoo. His wife, Carrie, must have been behind the camera as she is in none of the photos.

I am working on a badge album. Here is a little sneakie peakie.

You really need this kit!! Check out Robyn's blog to see more layouts using this kit!

Fatherhood and How Does Your Garden Grow

Are you ready for some previews of new ScrapperGirl Design kits? Robyn has two new kits, wordart, and an alpha being released this week. Since we are celebrating the wonderful fathers in our lives, Robyn created the new kit "Fatherhood." The colors are masculine blues, browns and greens; and the elements include metal buttons, hooks and screens, as well as some colored buttons, clips and manly man ribbons. Check out her preview of this fantastic kit!

Robyn also has a wordart package that coordinates with this kit that has many awesome quotes and words for all your layouts about your fathers.

You know you just have to have these!! Here is the page I created with "Fatherhood." This photo is of my nephew, Brad, and his son, Alex. Brad had two daughters before Alex joined their family, and he was thrilled to get a little boy. He takes Alex everywhere with him! Don't they look just alike?!

Robyn's next new kit is "How Does Your Garden Grow" and the matching glitter Alpha.

This kit and alpha are so much fun! The papers are bright and vibrant and are perfect to scrap not only garden photos but any outdoor pictures as well. The beautiful greens, earthy browns, tomato reds, and sunny oranges are so yummy! Take a look at the super cool elements. I had a ball working with the fence, tree, glitter swirls and stitching, rickrack, and ribbons. I didn't even scratch the surface of all the elements, including the watering cans, vegetables, flowers, frames and gardening tools. I am excited to make more layouts utilizing more of these spectacular items.

I just had to make a layout of this cute robin guarding her nest and babies. It built its nest in a tree in my sister's yard last summer, and we had so much fun watching the momma and babies.

These new fabulous kits can be found at Inspiration Lane, Pretty Scrappy and Digital Paper Hearts. Go check them out! You know you have to add them to your kit collection.

New ScrapperGirl kits

Robyn (aka ScrapperGirl Designs) has two new kits being released tomorrow, June 13. The first is a beautiful kit called Bundle of Joy, a perfect kit to scrap photos of the beautiful babies in your life. My daughter-in-law, Carrie, is pregnant with her and my son’s first child together. I used Robyn’s new kit to scrap this photo of her showing her tiny little baby bump. Doesn’t she look cute!

The soft, calm colors of Robyn’s kit are so pretty, it was difficult to decide which ones to use for my layout. I narrowed it down to eight (LOL!). And look at some of the precious elements! The kit includes darling little clothes, cute toys, sweet flowers and hearts, as well as beautiful frames, ribbons, and lots of other absolutely adorable elements. This has to be one of the sweetest kits I have ever seen of its type. Trust me, you absolutely have to have it!

Do you have a little artist in your life? If so, Robyn’s new kit aptly named “Little Artist” is for you. The bright colors of the solid papers, and paint splattered patterned papers, are the perfect building blocks for your layouts. Messy watercolors, squishy paint tubes, speckled crayons, and colored pencils are just some of the fun elements that will accent your pages. There are buttons, flowers, frames, rickrack and ribbons that are designed with the crafty kid in mind. The childlike innocence of this kit is so full of joy, I found myself thinking back to my own childhood where a brand new box of crayons and book of paper was pure heaven.

My layout is of my cute nieces and nephews painting and coloring their “Snowbird bags.” Each summer, my entire family goes to Snowbird for a week of vacation fun. We try to keep the little ones very busy and plan arts and crafts projects for each day. The first project for them is always a brand new “Snowbird bag” that is packed full of new markers, crayons, notebooks, and scrap pads. They have so much fun decorating their new bags.

Robyn's kits will be available for purchase tomorrow at Inspiration Lane, Pretty Scrappy and Digital Paper Hearts. She also has a wonderful wordart package that is designed for those wonderful fathers you know. Check out her stores!

Bad Blogger; update

Okay, I know. I have been a very bad blogger. I have been so entranced in learning to digiscrap, that that is all I want to do! I have learned so many new things the past couple of weeks. For instance, I learned how to blend a photo into my background, like in this LO of my greatniece Lexie.

Isn't she hilarious! She is so full of it and is on the go from sun up until she finally passes out after dark. What a cutie!!

In this LO I learned how to clip my photos to any shape and, in this case, puzzle pieces. And don't you just love this darling ocean theme kit. It is by Maelia Designs and is one of her kits for the SYTYCD contest being hosted by Digiscrap Addicts. There is some amazing designers and fabulous kits being offered for free. You just have to check them out!

One more LO to share. I am enrolled in GingerScraps scrapping bootcamp. This week's assignment is "Word Art." I have learned to recolor my title letters as well as to re-paper them to make them match whatever paper and elements I am using in my layout. I made this layout about my sweet daughter-in-law's cute little baby tummy. I wanted my title to match the bright colors of the papers. So after creating the title and finding a font I loved, I put each word into a new layer, then clipped a different paper to each word. I love how it came out!

Kit is Modern Mommy, a GingerScraps collab kit.
Fonts are Howser for my title and LD Doodle Script for my journaling.

Thanks for visiting today. I've got some exciting news and a preview of a fantastic new kit that I will tell you about in a couple of days, so please visit again soon!

I'm a Blogger

So, here I am, a blogger! I haven't figured out the whole thing yet, and my blog needs a lot of work, but I figured I better bite the bullet and begin posting. I'll work out all the kinks as I go, so please bear with me.

My blog is actually more for my own benefit. I want to be able to chronicle my learning to digital scrapbook. I have been a "paper" srapper for a long time, and probably will not give it up entirely in lieu of the digital scrap world. I love the pretty papers, stamps, ribbons, glitz and other fun elements that are available. The feel of them in my hands, using real scissors to cut them into shapes, applying glue to paper and building real dimension to my scrap pages is too much a part of me to abandon it totally.

However, this "new to me" world of digital scrapbooking has bitten me in the behind. I love taking all the computerized papers, elements and photographs and turning them into beautiful digital designs. I have printed a few, but have yet to find a printer that is both affordable and offers quality prints that I believe my pages deserve. Thus, most of my work is still on my hard drive. My blog will be a place where I can keep these pages and memories created in my mind.

Here are a few of the pages I have made this week.

This is my sister, Karen, at a recent visit to Washington, D.C., with her husband, Doug and son, Bryson. Bryson was checking out George Washington Law School as well as William and Mary Law School. Of course, some site seeing was also on the agenda. I wish I had been there, too.

Kit: Fireworks by Katie Castillo.

I love this photo of my great-nieces and nephews that was taken while we were at Snowbird last Summer. I love the photo because it was taken without their knowledge and reflects what a close relationship they all have with each other. I absolutely love how they all have their arms around each other. Gosh, I love these kids!

Kit: Enjoy Life, a Scrapmalin collab kit
Word art from Family Memories, a GDS Dec. 2008 collab kit.

This, of course, is Kandice and Lexie. I learned a couple of new techniques while creating this page. First was how to blend the top patterned paper into the blue background paper. The pattern paper is actually white with blue, green, and pink circles and dots on it. I like how this technique just melds the two papers together. Very cool! Also, I did a color extraction on the photo by converting it to black and white, and then extracting the blue in Lexie's eyes. It is not really noticeable here, but in its actual 12x12 size, it looks very striking.

Kit: A Mother's Moment, a Stuff to Scrap blog Train for NSD.

Each of these pages were created as part of Ginger Scraps' speed scrap challenges. They are having a speed scrap everyday this month. It is a lot of fun and a great way to try new techniques. I plan on taking part in several more as May is only half over.
